Enjoy Your Vacation & Travel with a Photographer

Vacations are all about relaxing, exploring new places, and making memories with the people you love most. But here's the thing—how many times do you come back from a trip with hundreds of photos on your phone, only to realize you're hardly in any of them?

Why Hire a Photographer on Vacation?

When you bring a professional photographer along (or book a session while you're away), you get to:

Actually be in the photos - No more hiding behind the camera or relying on strangers for a blurry shot.

Capture the true vibe of your trip - Whether it's sandy toes, mountain hikes, or a cozy city stroll, your photos will reflect the energy and excitement of your adventure.

Relax & enjoy the moment - Instead of worrying about snapping the perfect shot, you can just be present.

Create frame-worthy memories - professional photos let you relive your trip long after the suitcases are unpacked.

What Kind of Travel Photos Can I Capture?

Travel sessions can look a little different depending on the trip—and that's what makes them so fun! Here are a few ideas:

Beach Vacations – Golden sunsets, sandy feet, playful family candids.
Adventure Trips – Hiking, exploring, or celebrating big achievements.
City Escapes – Strolling through streets, coffee shops, and local landmarks.
Romantic Getaways – Perfect for proposals, anniversaries, or just celebrating your love.

My Approach as Your Travel Photographer

When I travel with you—or meet you on location—I keep things laid-back, fun, and true to your experience. The goal isn't stiff, posed pictures (unless you want a few of those, too)—it's to document the laughter, the joy, and those little in-between moments that make your vacation unforgettable.

Your next trip deserves more than selfies and rushed snapshots. Imagine coming home with a gallery of beautiful images that truly tell the story of your adventure.

Milestone Photos

Life is full of little moments that add up to big memories—and those moments deserve to be celebrated! From the chubby cheeks of a first birthday to the cap and gown of senior year, milestone photos are all about freezing time so you can look back and remember exactly who they were in that season.

           What Are Milestone Photos?

Milestone sessions capture life's highlights—the big achievements, the little changes, and everything in between. These aren't just pictures; they're a way to hold onto the laughter, the personality, and even the quirky stage your child might be in right now.

Think: missing teeth, favorite stuffed animal, the sport they can't stop talking about, or the sparkle of excitement before starting a new chapter.

           Why They're so Special

Here's the thing—time doesn't slow down. Kids grow up, families change, and before you know it, the "firsts" and "in-betweens" have flown by. Milestone photos give you the chance to:

✨ Look back at every stage with joy.

✨See the growth and changes through the years.

✨Celebrate the unique personality your child has right now.

They're not just photos for today—they're keepsakes your future self (and your kids) will thank you for.

           Milestones Worth Capturing

There's no wrong time for a milestone session, but some of the most popular ones include:

First birthdays (smash cake fun included!)
First day of school and kindergarten
⚽ Sports, hobbies, or big achievements
 Senior year and graduations
 Engagements, anniversaries, and “just because”

           Let's Celebrate Your Next Milestone!

No matter how big or small the occasion, it's worth capturing. If you've been waiting for the "perfect moment," this is it—because the stage you're in right now is worth remembering.

Let's plan a milestone session that feels fun, personal, and unforgettable.

Your Portraits are an Investment

It's easy to get caught up in the daily grind and let precious moments slip away unnoticed. We often find ourselves buried in schedules, deadlines, and the constant demands of modern life. But amidst the chaos, there's one thing that remains truly timeless: the importance of capturing and cherishing the memories that make life meaningful.

While it may seem like an expense, investing in professional portraits is not just about acquiring beautiful images; it's an investment in your family's history, a reminder of the love, joy, and connection that binds you together.

More Than Just Pictures: A Legacy in the Making

Family portraits are more than just photographs; they are precious heirlooms that will be cherished for generations to come. They serve as a visual timeline of your family's journey, capturing the fleeting moments of childhood, the milestones of adolescence, and the enduring bonds of love and kinship. These images offer a glimpse into the past, allowing future generations to connect with their ancestors, understand their heritage, and feel a sense of belonging to a larger family story.

Imagine your children, years from now, flipping through a family album filled with stunning portraits. They will see the sparkle in their parents' eyes, the mischievous grins of their childhood selves, and the loving embrace of grandparents. These images will evoke powerful emotions, reminding them of the enduring love and support that surrounded them throughout their lives.

           Building Stronger Family Bonds

The process of creating family portraits can be a deeply enriching experience for the entire family. It provides an opportunity to slow down, connect, and create lasting memories together. A professional photographer can help guide the session, encouraging natural interactions and capturing genuine moments of joy and affection. This shared experience can strengthen family bonds, foster a sense of togetherness, and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

           Choosing the Right Photographer

Selecting the right photographer is crucial to ensure a successful and enjoyable portrait session. Look for a photographer who:

Review the photographer's portfolio and ensure their style aligns with your vision.

Choose a photographer who is responsive, communicative, and dedicated to providing a positive and enjoyable experience for your family.

How to Prepare for Your Perfect Portrait Session

A portrait session is a wonderful opportunity to capture cherished memories and showcase your unique personality.

Whether it's a family portrait, a maternity shoot, a headshot for your business, or simply a way to celebrate yourself, a little preparation can go a long way in ensuring a relaxed and successful experience.

           Communication is Key

Before your session, clear communication with your photographer is essential. Discuss your vision for the photos. What is the purpose of the session? Are you looking for formal portraits, casual family shots, or something more artistic? Share any specific ideas you have, such as locations, props, or desired poses. Your photographer can offer valuable suggestions and tailor the session to your unique needs and preferences.

           Plan Your Outfits Carefully

Choosing the right outfits can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your portraits. Coordinate outfits within your family or group, but avoid matching everyone exactly. Opt for colors that complement each other and the chosen location. Solid colors generally photograph better than busy patterns, but a few subtle patterns can add visual interest. Consider the season and the overall mood you want to convey. Don't forget to iron your clothes and ensure they fit comfortably.

           Prepare Yourself (and Your Children)

If you're having family portraits taken, take some time to prepare your children. Explain to them what will happen during the session in a fun and age-appropriate way. Encourage them to cooperate and have fun. If possible, schedule the session when your children are typically well-rested and in a good mood.

           Consider Professional Hair and Makeup

For special occasions like weddings or professional head shots, consider hiring a professional hair and makeup artist. This can help you feel confident and ensure you look your best in the photos.

           Choose the Right Location

The location of your portrait session can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your photos. Consider a location that is meaningful to you, such as your home, a favorite park, or a scenic outdoor spot. Your photographer can offer suggestions for locations that would work well with your vision.

           Relax and Enjoy the Experience

The most important aspect of any portrait session is to relax and enjoy the experience. Try to let go of any anxieties and focus on connecting with your loved ones or simply enjoying the moment. A relaxed and happy atmosphere will naturally translate into beautiful and authentic photographs.

           Trust Your Photographer

Remember that you have chosen your photographer for their expertise and creative vision. Trust their guidance and direction during the session. They will know how to pose you, find the best light, and capture your personalities in the most flattering way.

           Prepare for Unexpected Circumstances

Even the best-laid plans can sometimes go wrong. Be prepared for unexpected circumstances, such as changes in weather or unexpected behavior from children. A good photographer will be able to adapt to unforeseen situations and still capture beautiful images.

           Discuss Post-Session Options

Discuss your options for receiving your photographs with your photographer. Will you receive digital files, prints, or both? Inquire about different print options, such as albums, canvases, and framed prints.

           Most Importantly: Have Fun!

A portrait session should be a fun and enjoyable experience. Relax, embrace the moment, and enjoy the process of creating beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.

With a little preparation and the guidance of a skilled photographer, you'll be left with stunning photographs that you will cherish for years to come.

When it comes to planning an event, whether it's a milestone anniversary, a joyous birthday party, or a heartwarming family reunion, capturing the moments that matter is crucial. Great event photography doesn’t just happen; it requires careful planning and consideration.

           Define Your Photography Goals

Before the event, it’s essential to define what you want from your event photography. Understanding your goals will guide the entire planning process and ensure you get the results you desire.

           Establish Priorities

: Determine which moments are most important to you. Are you focused on candid shots of guests interacting, posed group photos, or capturing specific details of the event? Communicate these priorities with your photographer to ensure they understand your vision and can plan accordingly.

           Create a Shot List

: Draft a list of must-have shots you want captured. This might include key people, specific activities, or important details like the cake or decor. Share this list with your photographer in advance so they can prepare and ensure no important moments are missed. (See end of Blog for Example Shot List)

           Choose the Right Photographer

Selecting the right photographer is crucial to capturing the essence of your event. Take the time to research and choose someone whose style aligns with your vision.

           Review Portfolios

: Look at the portfolios of potential photographers to see their previous work. Pay attention to their style, the types of events they’ve covered, and their ability to capture moments that matter. This will give you a sense of their expertise and whether they’re a good fit for your event.

           Check Reviews and References

: Read reviews from previous clients and ask for references. Positive feedback and recommendations can provide reassurance about the photographer’s reliability and professionalism.

           Discuss Your Vision

: Have a conversation with the photographer to discuss your event, your expectations, and any special requests. Ensure they understand your goals and are comfortable with the specifics of your event.

           3. Plan the Event Timeline

A well-structured event timeline helps ensure that every important moment is captured without feeling rushed. Coordinate with your photographer to align the schedule with your planned activities.

           Create a Detailed Schedule

: Outline the key events and timings for the day, including when guests are expected to arrive, when meals will be served, and when special activities like speeches or performances will take place. Share this timeline with your photographer so they can be prepared to capture each moment.

           Allow Time for Photos

: Allocate specific times for group photos, candid shots, and other important moments. Avoid cramming these sessions into a tight schedule to ensure there’s ample time for capturing high-quality images without stress.

           4. Coordinate with Your Venue

The venue plays a significant role in event photography. Coordinating with the venue ensures that your photographer has the access and knowledge they need to do their job effectively.

           Discuss Logistics

: Inform the venue of the photographer’s arrival time and any special access requirements. Ensure there are no restrictions that might impact photography, such as limitations on flash usage or areas off-limits to photographers.

           Scout the Location

: If possible, visit the venue with your photographer before the event. This allows them to familiarize themselves with the layout, lighting conditions, and potential photo opportunities. It also provides an opportunity to plan for any challenges that might arise.

           Prepare for Lighting Conditions

: Lighting can greatly affect the quality of your photos. Ensure the venue’s lighting is adequate or discuss options with your photographer. If natural light is limited, make sure there are provisions for additional lighting if needed.

           5. Prepare Your Guests

Informing your guests about the photography plans can help them feel more comfortable and ensure everyone is ready for their close-up.

           Communicate in Advance

: Let your guests know in advance that photography will be taking place. You might include a note in your invitations or a reminder on the event day. This helps set expectations and ensures guests are prepared for being photographed.

           Designate a Point of Contact

: Assign someone to help the photographer coordinate with guests, especially for group photos. This person can assist in gathering people, managing the flow of photo sessions, and addressing any issues that arise.

           Encourage Participation

: Encourage guests to be themselves and enjoy the event. Authentic, candid shots often capture the true spirit of the occasion, so let your photographer do their job without too much interference.

           6. Capture Key Details and Moments

Details and moments are what make your event unique. Ensuring these are captured requires attention to both the big picture and the small, special touches.

           Focus on Details

: Make a list of important details that you want to be photographed, such as decorations, table settings, and special mementos. These elements often provide a complete picture of your event and add depth to your photo collection.

           Be Mindful of Candid Moments

: While posed photos are important, candid shots often capture the essence of the event. Allow your photographer to move around and capture spontaneous moments, interactions, and emotions that happen throughout the day.

           Capture the Atmosphere

: The atmosphere of your event is as important as the key moments. Ensure your photographer captures the overall vibe of the event, including the venue’s ambiance, guest interactions, and any special activities.

           7. Review and Select Your Photos

After the event, the next step is to review and select the photos that best represent your experience. This process can be exciting and overwhelming, so here’s how to manage it effectively.

           Work with Your Photographer

: Discuss the timeline for receiving your photos and the process for selecting and reviewing them. Many photographers offer online galleries where you can view and choose your favorite shots.

           Review for Quality

: When selecting photos, look for high-quality images that capture the key moments and details of your event. Pay attention to factors such as composition, lighting, and focus.

           Consider a Photo Album

: A professional photo album can be a wonderful way to showcase your event memories. Discuss options with your photographer for creating a custom album that highlights the best moments of your event.

           8. Preserve and Share Your Memories

Once you have your photos, consider how you’ll preserve and share them with others.

           Create Digital Backups

: Ensure you have digital backups of your photos in multiple locations, such as cloud storage or an external hard drive. This will help protect your memories from being lost or damaged.

           Share with Guests

: Share your photos with guests by providing access to an online gallery or creating a social media album. This allows everyone to enjoy and relive the memories from your event.

           Display Your Photos

: Consider displaying your favorite photos in your home or office. Framed prints, canvas prints, or photo books can serve as beautiful reminders of your special occasion.

Event photography is more than just taking pictures; it’s about capturing the essence and emotions of your special occasion. By following this checklist and working closely with your photographer, you can ensure that every important moment is captured and preserved.

           Why Documenting Family Traditions Matters

Family traditions are those cherished rituals that bring us closer together and create lasting memories. Here’s why preserving these moments with photography is so meaningful:

           Reliving the Magic

: Photographs have a magical way of bringing back the feelings and details of a special moment. When you look at a picture from a family holiday or a birthday party, you’re instantly transported back to that joyful time. It’s like a time capsule that lets you relive the happiness, the hugs, and even the little mishaps that make your family gatherings unique.

           Passing Down Memories

: Our families grow and change, but those precious traditions can be a bridge to the past. By documenting your celebrations, you’re creating a visual story that your kids and grandkids can look back on. It’s a wonderful way for them to understand and connect with their heritage, and maybe even carry on the traditions you’ve started.

           Celebrating Achievements

: Milestones like anniversaries, graduations, or big family events often tie into your traditions. Capturing these moments not only helps celebrate the achievements but also highlights the love and support that’s been part of your family’s journey. It’s like putting a cherry on top of your family’s story!

Tips for Capturing Your Family’s Celebrations

Ready to get those memories on camera? Here are some friendly tips to help you capture the essence of your celebrations:

           Plan a Little

: Before the big day, think about the moments you definitely want to capture. Is it Grandma’s famous pie, the kids’ giggles during a game, or the family’s group hug? Having a mental list can help you stay focused and make sure you don’t miss those special shots.

           Light it Up

: Good lighting can make a huge difference in your photos. Natural light is your best friend, so try to take pictures during the day or near a window. If you’re indoors, soft, diffused light will help avoid harsh shadows. And if you’re outdoors, morning or late afternoon light is often the most flattering.

           Go for the Candid Shots

: While posed family photos have their place, the real magic often happens in candid moments. Snap away while everyone’s chatting, laughing, or just being themselves. These spontaneous shots often capture the true spirit of your family gatherings.

           Don’t Forget the Details

: The little things matter too—like the festive decorations, the table setup, or that homemade dish. These details help paint a fuller picture of your celebration and add a touch of personal flair to your photos.

           Get Everyone Involved

: Make your photo session a family affair! Encourage everyone to participate, whether it’s setting up the scene, posing for group shots, or just having fun. When everyone is involved, it makes the experience more enjoyable and the photos even more memorable.

           Incorporate Fun Props

: Add a playful touch to your photos with props related to your celebration. Whether it’s holiday-themed hats, funny glasses, or special decorations, props can make your photos more engaging and personal.

           Capture the Preparation

: Don’t just focus on the event itself—document the build-up too! Snap some photos while you’re cooking together, decorating, or setting up. These behind-the-scenes shots can be just as meaningful as the main event.

           Highlight Generations

: If you have multiple generations in your family, include everyone in your photos. Generational shots—like grandparents with grandkids—can be especially touching and show the continuity of your family’s legacy.

           Try a Time-Lapse

: For a unique twist, set up a camera to capture a time-lapse of your celebration. It’s a fun way to see the entire event unfold, from start to finish, and it can be a great addition to your family photo collection.

           Preserving and Sharing Your Photos

Once you’ve captured those amazing moments, it’s time to make sure they’re preserved and shared in a way that brings joy to everyone:

           Backup Your Memories

: Keep your photos safe by backing them up in multiple places. Use cloud storage and external hard drives to ensure you don’t lose any precious memories. It’s a small step that can save a lot of heartache later.

           Create Digital Galleries

: Share your photos with family and friends through digital galleries. Platforms like Google Photos make it easy to organize, share, and even order prints. It’s a great way to keep everyone in the loop and allow them to enjoy the memories.

           Print and Display

: Turn your favorite photos into tangible keepsakes by printing and framing them. Create a gallery wall or make a photo book that you can proudly display in your home. Seeing those memories in print adds a personal touch that digital images alone can’t capture.

           Host a Photo Viewing Party

: Gather your family and friends for a fun photo viewing session. It’s a great way to relive the celebration together, share laughs, and even make plans for the next big event. Plus, everyone will love seeing themselves and their loved ones in the spotlight!

: If you’re comfortable with it, share highlights of your celebration on social media. It’s a nice way to let extended family and friends who couldn’t be there in person enjoy the moments. Just remember to respect everyone’s privacy preferences when posting online.

           Share Your Vision

: A professional photographer can help bring your vision to life. Before your event, discuss the moments and details you want to capture. This way, they’ll understand exactly what you’re looking for and can make sure every special moment is documented.

           Find the Right Fit

: Choose a photographer whose style and personality match your family’s vibe. Look at their previous work, read reviews, and have a chat to see if they’re the right fit for your needs. The right photographer will make the experience enjoyable and the photos truly special.

           Plan Together

: Have a pre-event meeting or session with your photographer to go over plans and logistics. This will help ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the event and that you get the photos you’ve been dreaming of.

Preserving your family traditions through photography is a beautiful way to hold onto the magic of those special moments. It’s about more than just taking pictures—it’s about capturing the joy, love, and unique experiences that make your family gatherings so meaningful. Whether you’re snapping photos yourself or working with a professional, remember to enjoy the process and cherish the memories you create.

Capture the Essence of the Season

The holidays are a magical time filled with festive decorations, cozy sweaters, and moments of togetherness. Planning your family portraits in advance allows you to capture the true essence of the season. Whether you’re envisioning a classic winter backdrop, a cozy indoor setting, or a unique holiday-themed shoot, taking the time to plan ensures that you get the perfect shot that reflects your family’s personality and the spirit of the holidays.

           Avoid the Last-Minute Rush

The holiday season is a busy time for everyone. By scheduling your portrait session early, you avoid the last-minute rush and the stress of trying to coordinate a session amidst the holiday chaos. Early planning gives you ample time to choose outfits, select a location, and work with your photographer to ensure everything is perfect. It also allows for any unexpected changes or adjustments, ensuring that your portraits are everything you hoped for.

           Choosing the Right Photographer

Find a Photographer Who Understands Your Vision

Selecting the right photographer is crucial to achieving the look and feel you want for your holiday cards. Look for a photographer who understands your vision and has experience with holiday portraits. Take the time to review portfolios and discuss your ideas with potential photographers to ensure they align with your expectations.

           Consider Style and Approach

Photographers have different styles and approaches, from traditional poses to more candid, lifestyle shots. Consider what style best represents your family and what you want to convey in your holiday cards. Whether you prefer a classic, posed portrait or a more relaxed, natural look, choose a photographer whose style resonates with you.

Preparing for Your Family Portrait Session

Coordinate Outfits for a Cohesive Look

One of the key elements of a successful family portrait is coordinating outfits that complement each other without being too matchy-matchy. Choose a color scheme that works well with your chosen location and the overall theme of your holiday cards. Classic colors like reds, greens, and golds work beautifully for holiday photos, but don't be afraid to incorporate patterns or textures that add visual interest. Remember to keep comfort in mind, as happy, relaxed family members make for the best portraits.

Select a Location That Matches Your Style

The location of your portrait session can greatly impact the final result. Whether you choose a picturesque outdoor setting, a cozy indoor space, or a studio backdrop, ensure the location aligns with your vision and complements your outfits.

           Plan for Fun and Relaxation

Family portrait sessions should be enjoyable and relaxed. Plan activities or bring props that make the session fun for everyone, especially for young children. A relaxed environment helps everyone feel comfortable and natural, resulting in genuine, heartfelt images.

Incorporating Holiday Themes and Personal Touches

           Add a Festive Touch

Incorporating holiday-themed elements into your portraits can add a special touch that makes your holiday cards stand out. Consider using festive props, such as ornaments, holiday hats, or cozy blankets. Seasonal decorations can also enhance the holiday spirit in your images. However, it's important to strike a balance—ensure that the holiday elements complement rather than overpower the main focus: your family.

           Personalize Your Cards

Holiday cards are a wonderful way to share personal updates and well wishes with friends and family. Consider adding a personalized message or a special touch to your cards, such as a family update or a favorite holiday recipe. Personalizing your cards adds a meaningful touch and makes them even more special for the recipients.

Once you have your portraits, it’s time to choose the perfect card design. Many online services offer a range of templates and customization options for holiday cards. Consider selecting a design that complements your portraits and reflects your family’s style. Whether you prefer a classic, elegant design or a more modern, playful approach, choose a design that feels right for your family.

Check for any spelling errors, ensure that the design aligns with your portraits, and make sure all the details are correct. It’s also a good idea to get a sample card if possible to see how your design looks in print.

In this blog, we’ll share practical tips to ensure you look great in your photos and enjoy a stress-free session. From preparation to posing, these tips will help you shine in every shot.

           Preparation is Key

The way you prepare for your photo session can significantly impact the outcome. Preparation doesn’t just mean choosing the right outfits—it involves taking care of various aspects of your appearance and mindset.

           Choose the Right Outfit

: Select clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Solid colors generally work better than busy patterns or stripes, which can be distracting. Opt for colors that complement your skin tone and avoid anything too trendy that might date your photos. For group photos, coordinate outfits without being too matchy-matchy. Aim for a cohesive look that reflects your personal style while ensuring everyone feels at ease.

           Grooming and Skincare

: A little grooming can go a long way in making you look your best. Ensure your hair is styled as you like it and any facial hair is neatly trimmed. If you wear makeup, consider applying it a bit more than usual to ensure it shows up well on camera. Additionally, make sure to hydrate and moisturize your skin to create a smooth, glowing complexion. Avoid trying new skincare products right before your session to prevent any unwanted reactions.

           Rest and Relaxation

: A good night’s sleep before your session can help reduce under-eye circles and give you a refreshed appearance. Avoid heavy meals or alcohol the night before, as these can affect how you look and feel. Taking time to relax and calm your nerves will help you appear more natural and at ease in your photos.

           Understand the Lighting

Lighting plays a crucial role in how your photos turn out. Understanding how different types of lighting affect your appearance can help you make the most of your photo session.

           Natural Light

: Natural light, especially soft, diffused light, can be very flattering. If your session is outdoors or in a well-lit space, take advantage of the natural light to highlight your best features. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can create harsh shadows and make you squint. Early morning or late afternoon light provides a warm, soft glow that enhances your look.

           Studio Lighting

: If your session is indoors or in a studio, your photographer will control the lighting to create a flattering effect. Trust their expertise in adjusting lighting to suit your skin tone and the desired mood of the photos. Studio lighting can be adjusted to reduce shadows and highlight your best angles, so you can focus on looking your best.

           Avoid Flash

: If your session involves a flash, it can sometimes result in red-eye or unflattering reflections. Discuss any concerns with your photographer beforehand to ensure they use flash techniques that enhance rather than detract from your appearance.

           Master Your Posing

Posing is an essential aspect of looking great in photos. Knowing how to position yourself can make a significant difference in how your photos turn out.

           Stand Tall and Relax

: Good posture can make you appear more confident and polished. Stand tall with your shoulders back and your chin slightly up. Avoid stiff or awkward poses by keeping your body relaxed and natural. Practice a few poses in front of a mirror before your session to find what feels most comfortable.

           Use Your Hands and Arms

: Avoid letting your arms hang limply by your sides, as this can make them appear larger than they are. Instead, place your hands on your hips, gently clasp them in front of you, or let them rest naturally. If you’re sitting, avoid crossing your arms, as this can create a closed-off appearance.

           Angles Matter

: Slightly turning your body to the side rather than facing the camera straight on can create a more flattering silhouette. Tilt your head slightly and avoid staring directly into the lens for every shot. Experiment with different angles to find what works best for you. Your photographer will guide you in finding the most flattering angles during the session.

           Communicate with Your Photographer

Effective communication with your photographer is key to a successful photo session. Ensuring you and your photographer are on the same page will help you achieve the best results.

           Discuss Your Vision

: Before the session, share your ideas and preferences with your photographer. Let them know the type of photos you’re looking for, whether it’s classic portraits, candid moments, or creative shots. Providing examples of photos you like can help your photographer understand your vision and style.

           Provide Feedback

: During the session, don’t hesitate to give feedback or ask for adjustments. If you’re uncomfortable with a pose or if something doesn’t look right, let your photographer know. They’re there to make sure you’re happy with the final results and will appreciate your input to create the best possible photos.

           Relax and Trust the Process

: While it’s important to communicate your preferences, also trust your photographer’s expertise. They have experience in capturing great photos and will guide you throughout the session. Relax and enjoy the process, knowing that your photographer is working to bring out your best.

           Prepare for Different Scenarios

Being prepared for various scenarios can help you stay confident and adaptable during your photo session.

           Weather Considerations

: If your session is outdoors, check the weather forecast and have a backup plan in case of unexpected weather changes. Bring appropriate clothing or accessories for different weather conditions, such as umbrellas for rain or hats for sun protection.

           Bring Essentials

: Pack a small bag with essentials such as a comb or brush, makeup for touch-ups, and a water bottle. Having these items on hand can help you stay fresh and prepared throughout the session. Additionally, consider bringing a few personal items or props that reflect your personality or interests.

           Comfort and Convenience

: Choose comfortable clothing and footwear, especially if your session involves walking or standing for extended periods. Wear layers if the temperature might change during the session. Prioritize your comfort to ensure you’re relaxed and at ease in your photos.

           Enjoy the Experience

Ultimately, the best photos come from genuine expressions and natural moments. Enjoy the experience and focus on having fun.

There's something magical about a snow-covered landscape that instantly transforms any portrait session into a winter wonderland. The pure, white snow provides a clean and elegant backdrop that makes colors pop and adds a sense of serenity to your photos.

           Why Snow-Covered Landscapes Work

: Snow creates a uniform and bright background that reflects light beautifully, reducing harsh shadows and giving your photos a soft, diffused look. The contrast between the snow and your subjects can make the images more striking and vibrant.

           Tips for Shooting in Snow

: Ensure your camera settings are adjusted to account for the bright snow. Use a slightly higher exposure to avoid underexposing your subjects. Dress your clients in colorful clothing or patterns to stand out against the white snow. Additionally, consider using a lens hood to prevent glare from the sun reflecting off the snow.

           Cozy Indoor Settings

When the cold outside is too intense or the snow is sparse, a cozy indoor setting can provide a warm and intimate backdrop for your winter portraits. Think of places like a beautifully decorated home, a charming café, or a rustic barn.

           Why Cozy Indoor Settings Work

: Indoor locations offer a comfortable environment, making it easier for clients to relax and enjoy the session. These settings can also provide a range of textures and props that add warmth and character to your portraits. Warm lighting, soft furnishings, and festive decorations can enhance the overall atmosphere.

           Tips for Shooting Indoors

: Utilize natural light from windows whenever possible to create soft, flattering illumination. Incorporate cozy props such as blankets, mugs, and festive decorations to add personality and charm to your photos. Make sure the indoor space is tidy and well-organized to avoid distractions.

           Frosted Forests

A frosted forest, with its snow-dusted trees and serene atmosphere, offers a dreamy and enchanting setting for winter portraits. The natural beauty of a forest combined with a light dusting of frost can create a magical and fairytale-like quality in your images.

           Why Frosted Forests Work

: Forests provide a varied and textured background with natural elements like trees, branches, and foliage. The frost adds an extra layer of elegance and sparkle to the scene. The subdued light in a forest setting can also create a soft, diffused look that’s flattering for portraits.

Tips for Shooting in a Forest

: Be mindful of the lighting conditions in a forest, which can be quite variable. Look for spots with open sky to maximize natural light. Use a wide aperture to create a shallow depth of field, allowing the forest background to blur softly and keep the focus on your subjects.

           Urban Winter Scenes

Urban settings can provide a dynamic and contemporary backdrop for winter portraits. Think city streets adorned with holiday lights, bustling markets, or iconic landmarks dressed in winter attire. Urban winter scenes offer a blend of modernity and seasonal charm.

           Why Urban Winter Scenes Work

: The contrast between the urban environment and the winter season can create a striking and unique aesthetic. Holiday decorations, storefront displays, and city lights can add vibrant colors and interesting elements to your portraits. The hustle and bustle of the city can also convey a lively and energetic mood.

Tips for Shooting in Urban Areas

: Plan your shoot around key times when the city is less crowded to avoid distractions and ensure a smoother session. Utilize the city’s lights and decorations to add a festive touch to your photos. Be mindful of background clutter and try to frame your shots to highlight the urban elements without overwhelming the main subjects.

           Winter Gardens or Conservatories

Winter gardens and conservatories offer a lush and vibrant alternative to the typical winter scenes. These indoor botanical spaces are filled with greenery and colorful plants, providing a refreshing and lively backdrop even during the colder months.

           Why Winter Gardens Work

: The rich foliage and varied textures in a winter garden or conservatory can add depth and interest to your portraits. The controlled environment ensures a comfortable temperature for clients and allows for a range of creative shots. The natural greenery provides a contrast to the bare winter landscape outside.

Tips for Shooting in Winter Gardens

: Use natural light from skylights or large windows to illuminate your subjects and bring out the colors in the plants. Experiment with different angles to capture both the greenery and your subjects effectively. Ensure you have permission to shoot in these spaces and respect any guidelines or restrictions they may have.

Choosing the right location for your winter portraits can significantly impact the quality and mood of your photos. Indoor Sessions

: If you’re opting for an indoor session, think about incorporating elements that reflect the holiday spirit, such as festive decorations or a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Consider your home’s lighting and the space available to ensure that it complements the mood you want to capture. Indoor sessions can provide a warm, intimate feel, perfect for family gatherings or cozy holiday moments.

           Outdoor Sessions

: For those who prefer the great outdoors, choosing a location with seasonal charm can add a special touch to your portraits. Parks, snowy landscapes, or holiday-lit streets can serve as stunning backdrops. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather and discuss any location-specific details with your photographer in advance to ensure the session runs smoothly.

Coordinate Outfits for a Unified Look

What you wear for your holiday portrait session plays a significant role in how the final images will turn out. Coordinating outfits helps create a cohesive and polished look while allowing each person’s personality to shine

           Color Schemes

: Choose a color scheme that complements the setting and enhances the overall aesthetic of your portraits. Classic holiday colors like red, green, gold, and silver are always a hit, but don’t be afraid to incorporate neutral tones or soft pastels for a more contemporary look. Avoid overly busy patterns that can distract from the main focus – your family.

           Comfort and Style

: Ensure that everyone is comfortable in their outfits, as this will help them relax and look their best during the session. Opt for clothing that fits well and suits each individual’s style. Layering can add texture and visual interest to your portraits, so consider incorporating accessories like scarves or hats if they align with your chosen look.

Plan Ahead for Hair and Makeup

Getting your entire family – including pets – ready for a portrait session requires a bit of coordination and preparation. Ensuring everyone is in the right mood and ready to participate will make the session more enjoyable and productive.

           Pet Preparation

: If you’re including pets in your portraits, make sure they are well-groomed and accustomed to the setting. Bring along any favorite toys or treats to help keep them engaged and happy during the session. Pets can add a unique touch to your photos, so plan ahead to ensure they are an enjoyable part of the experience.

           Props and Accessories

: If you have specific props or accessories you’d like to include, such as holiday-themed items or personal keepsakes, bring them along. Discuss these ideas with your photographer beforehand to make sure they can be incorporated into the session seamlessly.

           Touch-Up Kit

: Pack a small touch-up kit with items like hairpins, makeup essentials, and a lint roller. This will allow you to address any last-minute adjustments and keep everyone looking their best throughout the session.

           Snacks and Drinks

: For longer sessions, consider bringing light snacks and drinks to keep everyone energized and comfortable. It’s especially helpful if you have young children or pets involved.

           Discuss Your Vision

: Have a conversation with your photographer about your expectations, preferred style, and any specific ideas you have for the session. Providing examples or inspiration photos can help convey your vision more effectively.

Understanding the dynamics of the group is the first step towards creating a photograph that resonates with the collective spirit.

           Tips for Understanding Group Dynamics:

           1. Pre-Event Communication: Communicate with the group before the photo session. Understand relationships, group dynamics, and any specific preferences or requests.

           2. Observation: Observe interactions during the event to identify natural groupings and hierarchies. This helps in organizing the photo efficiently.

             - Experiment with different formations based on the size of the group.

             - Consider variations like staggered rows or dynamic arrangements for added visual interest.

             - Encourage natural interactions to capture genuine smiles and laughter.

             - Take multiple shots to increase the chances of capturing candid moments.

Beyond the artistic aspects, technical considerations play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of group photos. Paying attention to details like lighting, focus, and equipment choices contributes to the overall success of the photograph.

           Technical Tips for Group Photos:

           1. Proper Lighting:

             - Utilize natural light whenever possible for a soft and flattering effect.

             - If using artificial lighting, ensure even distribution to avoid harsh shadows.

           2. Depth of Field:

             - Adjust your camera settings to achieve a suitable depth of field, keeping everyone in focus.

             - Consider the use of a tripod for stability, especially in low-light conditions.

           3. Group Size Awareness:

             - Adapt your equipment and shooting style based on the size of the group. Wide-angle lenses may be necessary for larger groups.

When executed with precision and creativity, group photos become cherished mementos that preserve the spirit of togetherness for generations to come. So, the next time you gather a group for a photo, approach it not just as a task but as an opportunity to create a visual legacy of shared memories.

           The Allure of Destination Events

Destination events, be it weddings, corporate retreats, or milestone celebrations, have a distinct charm. They unfold in picturesque settings, from tropical beaches to historic landmarks, creating a visual tapestry that adds an extra layer of significance to the captured moments. The photographer becomes not just an observer but a storyteller weaving narratives against the backdrop of captivating destinations.

           Challenges and Rewards:

           1. Logistics Mastery: Navigating the logistics of travel, accommodation, and equipment is a challenge. However, overcoming these hurdles leads to a sense of accomplishment and opens doors to new opportunities.

           2. Cultural Sensitivity: Every destination comes with its unique cultural nuances. A successful destination event photographer is one who embraces and respects the local culture, incorporating it into the visual narrative.

           3. Adaptable Creativity: Lighting conditions, weather, and unexpected challenges are part of the game. A skilled destination event photographer thrives on adaptability, turning obstacles into opportunities for creative innovation.

           Techniques for Success

            1. Preparation is Key:

             - Research the destination thoroughly, including weather conditions and local customs.

             - Create a detailed shot list while leaving room for spontaneous moments.

             - Invest in portable and versatile equipment to accommodate different shooting scenarios.

            2. Candid Moments in Exotic Settings:

             - Leverage the beauty of the destination by capturing candid moments against its unique backdrop.

             - Use the environment to enhance the emotional impact of the images.

           3. Storytelling through Details:

             - Focus on the details that make the destination special – from local flora to architectural wonders.

             - Integrate the destination's essence into the overall narrative of the event.

           The Intimate Connection

Destination event photography goes beyond capturing mere images; it forges an intimate connection between the event, the location, and the people involved. The photographer becomes a storyteller not just of the event itself but also of the destination's role in the unfolding narrative.

           Building Relationships:

           1. Client Collaboration: Involve clients in the creative process. Understand their vision and incorporate it into the destination's unique charm.

           2. Local Collaboration: Forge connections with local vendors, planners, and guides. Their insights can elevate the overall experience and result in more authentic captures.

           The Everlasting Memories

Destination event photography is an exhilarating journey that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of capturing events. It's about creating memories against the canvas of the world's most stunning landscapes. The challenges are overcome by the rewards of crafting timeless stories that transport viewers to the heart of the celebration and the beauty that surrounds it.

In the world of event photography, capturing the essence of the moment is a delicate art.

The choice between candid and posed portraits plays a crucial role in shaping the narrative of an event album. Each style brings its own charm and uniqueness, and finding the right balance is the key to creating a captivating visual story.

           The Art of Candid Photography

Candid shots are the spontaneous, unscripted moments that unfold naturally. These images have the power to freeze time, preserving genuine emotions, laughter, and the unexpected. Candid photography excels in capturing the raw energy of an event, providing viewers with a genuine and unfiltered glimpse into the atmosphere.

           Tips for Mastering Candid Shots:

           1. Blend In: A skilled candid photographer knows how to become part of the background, making subjects feel comfortable and allowing them to act naturally.

           2. Quick Reflexes: Anticipating moments before they happen is crucial. Being ready to capture a fleeting smile or an emotional exchange requires quick reflexes and a keen eye.

           3. Stealth Mode: Sometimes, the best candid shots come from being inconspicuous. Move silently, use a telephoto lens, and capture the magic without disturbing the moment.

           The Elegance of Posed Portraits

Posed portraits, on the other hand, are carefully orchestrated compositions. They allow for control over lighting, framing, and the overall aesthetic. Posed shots are ideal for creating timeless and polished images, highlighting the individuals and the event's finer details.

Tips for Achieving Striking Posed Portraits:

           1. Communication is Key: Establish clear communication with your subjects. Help them feel at ease and guide them through poses to ensure a natural and comfortable look.

           2. Scout the Location: Before the event begins, scout the venue for picturesque spots that can serve as the backdrop for stunning posed portraits.

           3. Play with Angles: Experiment with different angles and perspectives to add variety to your posed shots. A slight tilt of the head or a change in camera height can make a significant difference.

           Striking the Perfect Balance

The magic lies in finding the right balance between candid and posed photography. A well-curated event album tells a story that unfolds seamlessly, blending the authenticity of candid moments with the elegance of posed portraits.

           Key Considerations:

           1. Event Type: Consider the nature of the event. Weddings may call for a balance that leans towards posed shots, while casual gatherings might thrive on candid spontaneity.

           2. Client Preferences: Understand the preferences of your clients. Some may prefer the timeless charm of posed portraits, while others may cherish the candid, unfiltered moments.

           3. Narrative Flow: Plan the sequencing of your shots to create a narrative flow. Begin with candid shots to set the tone, gradually transitioning to posed portraits for a polished finish.

The interplay between candid and posed photography is an art form that requires both technical skill and a creative eye. By striking the perfect balance, photographers can create event albums that not only document moments but also tell a captivating story that resonates with viewers for years to come.

Photography is an art that can freeze moments in time, preserving emotions and memories that resonate wit his for years to come.

While posed and staged photos have their place, candid photography holds a unique power in capturing genuine emotions and authentic moments. Lets explore the magic of candid photography, its ability to tell compelling stories, and how to master the art of capturing raw emotions.

           1. Unfiltered Emotions:

Candid photography is all about capturing unfiltered and spontaneous emotions. When subjects are unaware of the camera, they are more likely to be their true selves, expressing genuine joy, laughter, love, and even vulnerability. These candid moments often evoke a deeper emotional connection in viewers compared to posed shots.

           2. Storytelling at its Best:

Candid photos tell stories that words may fail to convey. Whether it's a child's innocent laughter, a loving glance between partners, or the tearful farewell at a wedding, candid photography allows us to witness and connect with the human experience on a profound level. Each photo becomes a chapter in the larger story of life.

           3. Immortalizing Precious Moments:

Life's most precious moments are often fleeting, and candid photography freezes these ephemeral instances in time. From the joy of a child blowing bubbles to the tenderness of an elderly couple holding hands, candid photos become cherished keepsakes for both the subjects and their loved ones.

           4. Creating Natural Aesthetics:

Candid photography offers a natural aesthetic that cannot be replicated in posed images. The absence of forced smiles or stiff postures allows for a more organic and visually appealing composition. The resulting photos feel alive and brimming with emotion.

           5. Building Trust and Comfort:

As a candid photographer, building trust and rapport with your subjects is crucial. Make them feel at ease by being discreet, respectful, and unobtrusive. This will encourage them to act naturally, allowing you to capture genuine emotions without self-consciousness.

           6. Being Patient and Observant:

To capture candid moments, patience and observation are key. Anticipate the unfolding action, be ready to capture the right expressions, and be prepared for the unexpected. Candid photography requires staying alert and being in tune with the environment and the people around you.

           7. Blending into the Background:

When photographing candid moments, try to blend into the background as much as possible. Use a longer lens to maintain distance while still capturing intimate details. Avoid using flash in sensitive situations, as it can disrupt the natural ambiance.

           8. Post-Processing with Care:

While candid photos are all about authenticity, some post-processing may be necessary to enhance the visual appeal. Focus on subtle adjustments to exposure, contrast, and color to maintain the natural essence of the moment.

           9. Capturing Candid Portraits:

Candid portraits are particularly powerful in revealing the subject's personality and emotions. Engage your subjects in conversation, make them comfortable, and be ready to capture their candid expressions when they least expect it.

           10. Embracing Imperfections:

In candid photography, imperfections can add authenticity and charm. Embrace the raw and unpolished aspects of candid moments, as they often hold the most genuine emotions.

Candid photography is an art that transcends staged images by capturing raw emotions and authentic moments. Through candid photos, we can tell compelling stories, immortalize precious memories, and connect with the emotions of the human experience. As photographers, mastering the art of candid photography requires patience, observation, and building trust with our subjects. By embracing imperfections and post-processing with care, we can create powerful and meaningful images that resonate with both the subjects and their audience. So, let's embrace the magic of candid photography and capture the beauty of life's fleeting moments.

Venturing into manual mode can be both an exciting and daunting experience.

For many photography enthusiasts, venturing into manual mode can be both exciting and daunting. While it offers unparalleled creative control, understanding and mastering the various camera settings can feel overwhelming at first. In this cheat sheet, we'll break down the essential camera settings in manual mode, empowering you to take control of your photography and capture stunning images.

           1.Shutter Speed

Shutter speed refers to the amount of time your camera's shutter remains open, allowing light to enter the sensor. It is measured in seconds or fractions of a second (e.g., 1/500, 1/1000). Fast shutter speeds freeze motion, ideal for action shots or capturing moving subjects. Slow shutter speeds, on the other hand, create motion blur, great for capturing flowing water or long exposure shots.

           2.Aperture

Aperture is the opening in you camera's lens that controls the amount of light reaching the sensor. It is represented by f-stops (e.g., f/2.8, f8, f16). A lower f-stop (e.g., f2.8) results in a wider aperture, allowing more light and creating a shallow depth of field, perfect for portraits with blurred backgrounds. A higher f-stop (e.g., f/16) creates a smaller aperture, suitable for landscapes, where you want everything in focus.

           3.ISO

ISO measures the sensitivity of your camera's sensor to light. Lower ISO settings (e.g., ISO 100) are ideal for bright conditions, resulting in cleaner images with less noise. Higher settings (e.g., ISO 1600, ISO 3200) are used in low-light situations but can introduce noise, so use them sparingly.

           4.Exposure Triangle

The exposure triangle is the relationship between shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. Adjusting one setting affects the others, so understanding this balance is crucial for achieving the desired exposure. For example, if you increase your shutter speed, you may need to widen your aperture or increase your ISO to maintain proper exposure.

           5.White Balance

White balance determines the color temperature of your images. Different lighting conditions cast different color tints on your photos. Setting the appropriate white balance (e.g., daylight, cloudy, tungsten) ensures accurate and natural-looking colors.

           6.Metering Mode

Metering mode determines how your camera measures the light in a scene. The most common metering modes are matrix/evaluative, center-weighted, and spot metering. Choose the mode that best suits your subject and lighting conditions.

           7.Focus Mode

Select the focus mode that suits your shooting style and subject . Single-shot autofocus (AF-S) locks focus when you half-press the shutter button, ideal for still subjects. Continuous autofocus (AF-C) tracks moving subjects, ensuring they remain in focus.

           8.Exposure Compensation

Exposure compensation allows you to override your camera's metering and adjust the exposure to make images brighter or darker. Use this setting to fine-tune your exposure, especially in tricky lighting situations.

           9.RAW vs. JPEG

Choose between shooting in RAW or JPEG format. RAW files retain more information and offer greater flexibility in post-processing but requires more storage space. JPEG files are smaller and ready to share but have less latitude for adjustments.

           10.Bracketing

Bracketing takes multiple shots at different exposures. This technique is useful for high-contrast scenes, allowing you to merge images later for a balanced exposure.

Manual mode gives you complete creative control over your photography, enabling you to achieve your vision and create stunning images.

Photography sessions offer a wonderful opportunity to capture precious moments, create lasting memories, and showcase your personality and style. Whether you're planning a family portrait, engagement shoot, or a solo session to celebrate yourself, deciding between a mini session and a full session can significantly impact your photography experience. In this blog, we'll explore the differences between mini sessions and full sessions to help you make an informed decision that best suits your needs and preferences.

           Mini Sessions:

           1. Time Duration: Mini sessions are typically shorter than full sessions, lasting around 15 to 30 minutes. This makes them an excellent choice for those with busy schedules or young children who may have a limited attention span.

           2. Focus on Specific Occasions: Mini sessions are often themed around specific holidays or events, such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, or Mother's Day. They may also focus on seasonal changes, such as spring blooms or autumn foliage.

           3. Limited Number of Photos: Due to the shorter time frame, mini sessions result in a smaller number of photos compared to full sessions. This can be an advantage for those who prefer a quick and straightforward selection process.

           4. Lower Investment: Mini sessions are generally more budget-friendly than full sessions. They offer an affordable option to capture beautiful images without committing to a longer and more comprehensive shoot.

           5. Ideal for Updates: Mini sessions are perfect for updating family photos or capturing yearly milestones in a more budget-conscious manner.

           Full Sessions:

           1. Time Duration: Full sessions typically last anywhere from one to two hours, allowing for a more relaxed and unhurried photography experience. This extra time allows the photographer to explore various locations and capture a wider range of shots.

           2. Customization and Personalization: Full sessions offer greater flexibility for tailoring the shoot to your specific preferences, style, and vision. You can choose locations, themes, and outfits that resonate with you, resulting in more personalized images.

           3. Extensive Variety of Photos: The longer duration of a full session allows for a more extensive collection of images, providing you with a diverse selection to choose from during the selection process.

           4. Connection with the Photographer: Full sessions provide ample time for you to establish a connection with the photographer. This rapport can lead to more natural and candid shots, capturing authentic emotions and expressions.

           5. Comprehensive Coverage: Full sessions are ideal for capturing significant life events, such as engagements, maternity shoots, and family reunions. They offer a comprehensive and in-depth coverage of your special moments.

Choosing between a mini session and a full session in photography depends on your specific needs, budget, and the type of experience you desire. Mini sessions are a fantastic choice for quick updates, themed occasions, and budget-conscious shoots. They are perfect for capturing small milestones and seasonal celebrations. On the other hand, full sessions offer a more personalized, extensive, and relaxed photography experience. They are ideal for significant life events, creating customized portraits, and developing a deeper connection with your photographer.

Ultimately, both types of sessions can deliver beautiful and meaningful images that you will cherish for years to come. Whichever option you choose, investing in professional photography allows you to freeze moments in time, preserving the joy and emotions of life's most precious occasions.

Your engagement shoot is a special occasion that allows you to celebrate and document your love before taking the next step in your relationship.s It's an opportunity to capture beautiful moments and create lasting memories. To ensure your engagement shoot goes smoothly and exceeds your expectations, some pre-shoot preparations is essential.

           1.Choose the Perfect Location:

Selecting the right location is crucial for capturing the essence of your relationship. Consider places that hold sentimental value or reflect your shared interests and personalities. It could be the post where you first met a picturesque park, a vibrant cityscape, or a beautiful beach. Research potential locations, check out sample photos, and sinus with your photographer to find a perfect backdrop for your shoot.

           2.Coordinate Your Outfits:

            3. Plan Ahead With Your Photographer:

Communicating effectively with your photographer is vital to ensure that your vision for the shoot aligns with their expertise. Schedule a pre-shoot consultation to discuss ideas, share inspirations, and convey any specific shots or themes you have in mind. This will help your photographer prepare and bring the necessary equipment, props and lighting to capture your desire aesthetic.

           4. Add Personal Touches:

Incorporate props or elements that represent your relationship and shared interests. It could be something as simple as a favorite book, a picnic setup, balloons, champagne, or items related to a hobby you both enjoy. These personal touches will add depth and meaning to your photos, making them uniquely yours.

           5. Relax and Have Fun:

Engagement shoots are all about capturing the love and joy you share as a couple. Relax, be yourselves, and embrace the moment. Don't be afraid to be playful, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. Your photographer will guide you throughout the shoot, capturing candid and authentic moments that reflect your relationship.

Preparing for your engagement shoot allows you to create a seamless experience and capture the essence of your love store. Cherish these moments, as they will serve as cherished reminders of this special time in your lives.

I get a lot of questions asking about...

           - "What should our family wear?"

           - "Should we wear all the same color?"

Here are some tips, color palettes, and patterns that work together.

Tip:If there are more than 6 people in a family, don't try to match colors or patterns. It will look like one large color blob and everything will become very flat.

Tip: Do not wear dark against light, plaid or stripes!

-Dark against light: patterns with large amount of contrast become very distracting in photos.

-Plaid: Pretty much every person wears plaid! It's time to steer away from it!

-Stripes: Small close together stripes can make a picture look distorted.

Moral of this tip - if it hurts your eyes don't think about wearing it.

Patterns that are great for pictures:

-Floral print: different floral prints can add a lot to pictures. They can add different dimensions and even when you put two different floral prints together they aren't going to contrast against each other.

-Shapes: Small, subtle, and repetitive. Those are the key things to remember. If the shape becomes too large it becomes too distracting.

-Stripes: Larger stripes are fine but over all I would try to stay away from stripes in general.

The best clothing type to wear is textured clothing! Don't be afraid to mix and match textured pieces of clothing. These give great dimensions and bring a lot of key elements into your photo all while keeping the image subtle. You can't have enough texture!

           Color Palettes.

There are so many to choose from and such a large range of options. Some of my favorite color palettes:

-Medium-dark gray, burnt yellow, black, and white

-Light yellow, dark turquoise, very dark turquoise, burnt yellow, dark topaz, dark blue-green

-light fern green, topaz, drab brown, dark edge wood, very dark antique blue, black

-light salmon, medium dusty rose, medium dark antique mauve, dark electric blue, dark baby blue, dark navy blue

-Battleship gray, pewter, ash, lavender, smoke

-Sage, terracotta, forest green, stone gray, black

How to put it all together?

-Start with Mom! Choose your outfit first! I recommend wearing a pattern with 3-5 colors within your dress or shirt. This will set the tone for what colors the rest of the family wear.

-Next choose one dominant color and the rest of the family wear accent colors. This will help have contrast but not make it look so dark.

-Choose your partner's outfit. If you want to choose clothing from what your family already has always choose your partner's outfit after yours. If you need to pick up a few pieces for the kids, they will be less expensive. Choose a couple of layers for a man. Layers tend to flatter men! Your partner's clothing should be either a neutral or an accent color.

-Kids clothing. Mix it up with your kids. Choose some textured clothing or a pattern similar to yours. Have one of them wear the bold color and the other(s) an accent colors with bits of the bold in it. Their outfits can add so much detail. The girls can accessorize with jewelry, bows, belts, etc. Where boys can add different elements with their shoes, laid shirts, different types of pants (jeans, khakis, chinos, etc.) Your kids clothing will be the easiest once you pick out your and your partners clothing.

One extra tip: Place all of your clothes together to get a quick view of how it will look all together and don't forget to make sure that everyone tries on their clothes at latest a week before photos. Nothing ruins pictures more than being uncomfortable in the clothing your squeezed into or are tripping over.

Setting up your family for success by wearing clothing you look amazing in has never been so easy!
